Treatments

Dr. Johnston uses many different techniques, some of which are uniquely designed for specific problems.

1. Chiropractic Techniques

  • Flexion distraction is a very gently highly effective technique for relieving pressure on discs and thereby stopping sciatic pain

  • Activator and Thompson techniques are low force methods used for full spine adjustments

  • Diversified is considered the "traditional" regular force spinal manipulations

2. Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a hands-on bodywork technique used to relieve tension and pain by releasing and lengthening both muscles and fascia.  The practitioner applies a steady light force to designated "trigger points" along a muscle group(s).  This promotes flexibility, balance and relaxation.  This technique is especially effective for relieving stiff neck, chronic headaches, plantar fasciitis and backache.  It can also help to repair old injuries by increasing the pliability of scar tissue in muscles and tendons. Sessions are booked for a half or full hour.  There is no adjusting of vertebra with this technique which makes it  ideal for people who are not good candidates for traditional chiropractic manipulations.

3. Supportive Therapies

In addition to Chiropractic treatments and myofascial therapy, we use a number of ancillary modalities to address musculoskeletal damage, thereby speeding up the healing process.

  • Hot / Cold packs

  • Ultra sound therapy
A therapeutic treatment that uses high frequency sound waves.  It increases blood flow, relaxes muscle spasms, massages damaged tissues and speeds up healing.  Virtually painless and very relaxing.

  • Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS)
A special form of electrical current that is administered at the site of a soft tissue injury.  Useful as an effective form of pain relief.  It is recommended in cases in which pain is accompanied by swelling and inflammation.
